Website Security Trends of 2024

Have you ever thought about why website security is so important? A secure website can prevent you from losing money, keep your users information safe and help your reputation. Today I will be discussing Artificial intelligence, Internet of things, remote working and multi factor authentication.

Artificial Intelligence is being used by both criminals and cyber security companies. Artificial Intelligence is the science of making machines think like humans. The goal of Artificial Intelligence is to have the machines be able to recognize patterns. It’s important because it can go thru data a lot faster than humans so it can recognize a cyber security threat much quicker than a human can. It’s also important to know hackers use Artificial Intelligence to hack websites. Some real world examples of Artificial Intelligence are chat bots, Teslas and facial recognition. Artificial Intelligence can be helpful to people but it can also be harmful.

The Internet of Things is the network of objects with sensors and software that can connect and exchange data with other devices. Internet of Things is an important subject in cyber security because a lot of the devices are not encrypted so if a hacker gets into one of the devices then they can get into any other device that is connected to that network. Some real world examples of Internet of Things are smart watches, smart homes and smart refrigerators. In a Verkada Attack, hackers accessed 150000 cloud connected cameras in Tesla factories, gyms, hospitals and more.

Working remotely has become more common since the pandemic. It’s important for people working remotely to use a VPN, use antivirus software and make sure people in the house don’t access the work computer. It is important for people working at home to have a strong wifi password so that it doesn’t get hacked.

Multi-factor authentication is when you use 2 or more pieces of evidence to log-in. Multi-factor authentication helps protect systems from being hacked because you have to enter more information then just your password. One example would be when you log into your bank account and you have to enter your password and then they text you a code to enter into their website. Multi-factor authentication does take longer to log in but is more secure.

It is extremely important to stay up to date with security trends so that you can keep yourself protected and your business safe. You can use the tips I provided in this vlog to get you started to stay safe on the internet.
